Dholera International Airport 2026: Opening Timeline and What It Means for Nearby Land

The Dholera International Airport is a greenfield airport under development near Navagam in Dholera taluka, about 80 km from Ahmedabad and around 20 km from the core of the Dholera Special Investment Region. It is being developed as a joint initiative involving the Airports Authority of India, the Government of Gujarat and the national industrial corridor development trust.

The airport has been conceived as an aerotropolis — an airport designed to act as an economic catalyst rather than a transport facility alone. It is being integrated with a manufacturing hub, a green city and the region's emerging semiconductor cluster, which officials have described as a first-of-its-kind combination for an Indian airport project.

The scale of the project gives a sense of what is taking shape on the Ahmedabad–Dholera corridor.

Phase-1 civil works were reported complete in December 2025, and calibration flights were conducted in early 2026. The remaining steps centre on terminal fit-out, Air Traffic Control equipment and licensing by the DGCA.

Operations have been targeted for around September to October 2026 by the civil aviation ministry, with commercial services expected in late 2026. These are official targets rather than confirmed dates — airport commissioning timelines in India can slip — so the reliable approach is to follow official announcements.

Once Phase-1 stabilises, a future Phase-2 is planned to expand capacity towards 30–50 million passengers a year, though no construction timeline has been announced for that phase.

Aviation activity is already being announced around the airport. Flywings Simulator Training Centre received a Letter of Intent from the Airports Authority of India in August 2026 to establish a Flying Training Organisation at Dholera Airport.

Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangars are also planned on site, and Dholera has been selected for the final assembly line of India's first civilian 'Make in India' aircraft — a partnership between Embraer and Adani Aviation Systems — with the first aircraft targeted by 2028. These plans illustrate the industrial intent building around the airport before its official opening.

The airport is being linked as a multimodal hub. The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, operational since March 2026, cuts road travel from Ahmedabad to roughly 45–60 minutes. A semi-high-speed rail corridor from Sarkhej to Dholera has also been approved, with a station positioned directly next to the airport terminal.

Officials have indicated that a passenger travelling from Ahmedabad would eventually be able to step from the high-speed train directly into the terminal — connectivity that anchors the airport as the region's entry point.

Airports shape long-term interest in surrounding land through connectivity, employment and industry. For buyers, an operational airport can be a meaningful regional catalyst — but it is context, not a promise about any specific parcel.

Development timelines move, and land outcomes depend on location specifics, regulation and timing. The sound approach remains the same: verify facts independently, understand the specific parcel, and visit the land before any decision.
